The yellow brick road, the start of Shongololo Studio pt2

I have always known that in order for me to become successful and financially independent I would need to come up with one of two things. I would either have to invent something or do some
I am not just an Artist I am also a mother to three very beautiful and bright creative minds, Jessica-Anne (10), Kaelyn (7) and James (3). I have always been a hands-on mom, and when I am working and creating my beautiful and unusual art work I always encourage my children to sit and be creative with me. Art is something that not just teaches my children commitment in the sense to follow through and finish something to the best of their ability, but it teaches them to think outside the box. Many people think buying children all they want will keep them happy, I have found spending quality time with them teaching my skills brings a lot more joy, and we get to spend quality time together for this is what they will remember me by.

I have always known that in order for me to become successful and financially independent I would need to come up with one of two things. I would either have to invent something or do something completely different with something that already exists. I have asked myself what this could be over and over again the last couple of years at times brainstorming about the idea thinking too hard. My then it came to me my sugar skull creations, was the answer. As far as I have researched no one has done this before, if they have done it, it was done many years before I thought of the idea to create and sell it as a beautiful piece of art. I want to do more research into the history of the use of animal skulls, bones and horns to find out how people in history have used it, to my immediate knowledge I can only remember bone being used in making jewelery.

A day after quitting my job I hop in to my car and head out to Fouriesburg which is situated in the Freestate. There I stay with an absolutely lovely lady who has a beautiful farm, and more ideas and inspiration for me. She told me about her life of simplicity and how she had acquired the skills of screen printing and clothes making to establish her own business, mainly selling her goods at festivals, this is also something I would like to target and I have already applied for a stand at next year’s Splashy Fen Festival in the midlands. She had looked at my idea and said it was very unusual and very beautiful and I should use the time I was there to sit and write my notes do some research and when I have a moment go out to Clarens to see if I might be able to pick up some business there.

Clarens is a small village in the Free State, situated in the foothills of the Maluti Mountains and is in close proximity to the Golden Gate National Park and the mountain kingdom of Lesotho. Clarens is an Artists haven with many well known artists either living in or frequenting the village on a regular basis with many art galleries scattered around the village square.

The village has become known as the "Jewel of the Free State" - rich in beauty, with an aura of peace and tranquillity. The town is known for the many Art and Craft hops which offer the visitor a wide range of curios and original artwork.
